Convert scanned PDFs to searchable text PDF
A scanned PDF may contain only page images. Folio recognizes the words and exports a new PDF with real text that can be selected and searched in a compatible PDF reader.
How to make a scanned PDF searchable
- Choose your scanned PDF in Folio.
- Start local OCR, then review the text and restore any skipped pages you need.
- Correct recognition errors and check selected illustrations in the preview.
- Purchase the document export. The download includes both text PDF and EPUB.
Does it add an invisible text layer to the original scans?
No. Folio creates a new, readable layout from recognized text and optional illustrations. Page breaks and image placement can differ from the original PDF. If you need the exact scanned page appearance with an OCR overlay, this output does not provide that.
Can I edit the OCR before downloading?
Yes. Preview and text editing are free. Your corrections are included in the exported files. PDFs that already contain a text layer can skip OCR. Check names, numbers, footnotes and tables carefully because recognition can leave errors.
What does it cost?
OCR, preview and editing are free. One export purchase per document includes EPUB and PDF: PLN 5.00, USD 1.99 or EUR 1.99. Check current payment availability in the app before relying on downloads.
